Mr. VanderLaan, AHS Principal:
Mr. VanderLaan, long term west Michigan resident, has been working in education for 15 years. After graduating from Hudsonville High, Mr. VanderLaan decided to attend Grand Valley State University to work towards getting a degree in education. He worked at East Kentwood High School as a history teacher, then moved into the East Kentwood Middle School where he became the principal and athletic director. As for his personal life, Mr. VanderLaan is married and has two sons, one is 2 and the other 5 months. In his free time Mr. V enjoys immersing himself in the culture of the town by attending sports, school plays, and other Allendale community events. Apart from school, his life is filled with the excitement of raising a family. A piece of advice Mr. VanderLaan has for everyone new to AHS is get involved with the community, don’t isolate yourself. Push yourself outside of your comfort zone and you’ll be met with friendliness and a heartwarming AHS welcome.
