ALLENDALE – Think teenagers today are just interested in instant gratification? Try telling that to Allendale seniors Taylor Adams and Jolie Groeneveld.
In their third season on the Allendale girls basketball team, Adams and Groeneveld are examples of commitment and perseverance that people of any age can learn from. Heading into Allendale’s season-opener with Covenant Christian, Adams and Groeneveld had gone 738 days without experiencing a win on the basketball court. Since the opening game of their sophomore seasons, the Allendale girls had dropped 41 consecutive games.
This year, the perseverance of Adams and Groeneveld is paying off and then some. Not only did Allendale defeat Covenant Christian 25-20 to end the victory drought, but the Falcons followed up that win with victories against Hopkins and NorthPointe Christian to open the season with a 3-0 record.
The leadership of Groeneveld and Adams is a major part of Allendale’s success. While they are not usually in the starting lineup, their dedication to the team is a catalyst for success.
“Taylor and Jolie are both gritty players,” said Allendale coach Joel Brose. “When they are on the floor they make everyone else better. They are total team players.”
